Steroid Injections
1. Caudal Epidural Steroid Injection
What it Treats
A caudal epidural steroid injection is used to relieve lower back and leg pain caused by conditions such as herniated discs, spinal stenosis, or post-surgical inflammation. It targets inflammation around the spinal nerves at the lower end of the spine.
How the Procedure Is Performed
The procedure is performed using imaging guidance to ensure precise placement of the needle into the epidural space through the sacral opening at the base of the spine. A combination of steroid medication and local anesthetic is injected to reduce inflammation and relieve pain.
2. Coccygeal Joint Steroid Injection
What it Treats
A coccygeal steroid injection is used to relieve pain in the tailbone area, also known as coccydynia. This pain is often caused by trauma, prolonged sitting, inflammation, or degenerative changes involving the coccyx.
How the Procedure Is Performed
The procedure is performed using imaging guidance to ensure accurate needle placement. A combination of steroid medication and local anesthetic is injected near the coccyx to reduce inflammation and provide pain relief
3. Epidural Steroid Injection
a. Cervical Embed
What it Treats
A cervical epidural steroid injection is used to relieve pain, inflammation, and nerve irritation in the neck and arms. It is commonly recommended for conditions such as herniated discs, spinal stenosis, or degenerative disc disease affecting the cervical spine.
How the Procedure Is Performed
The procedure is performed using X-ray or fluoroscopic guidance to accurately place a needle into the epidural space in the cervical spine. A combination of steroid medication and local anesthetic is injected to reduce inflammation and relieve pain radiating into the neck, shoulders, or arms.
b. Thoracic Embed:
What it Treats
A thoracic epidural steroid injection is used to relieve pain and inflammation in the mid-back and areas affected by nerve irritation. It is commonly recommended for conditions such as herniated discs, spinal stenosis, or degenerative disc disease in the thoracic spine.
How the Procedure Is Performed
The procedure is performed using X-ray or fluoroscopic guidance to accurately place a needle into the epidural space in the thoracic spine. A combination of steroid medication and local anesthetic is injected to reduce inflammation and relieve pain that may radiate to the chest, mid-back, or upper abdomen
c. Lumbar Embed:
What it Treats
A lumbar epidural steroid injection is used to relieve lower back and leg pain caused by conditions such as herniated discs, spinal stenosis, or degenerative disc disease in the lumbar spine. It helps reduce inflammation around irritated spinal nerves to improve mobility and decrease discomfort.
How the Procedure Is Performed
The procedure is performed using X-ray or fluoroscopic guidance to accurately place a needle into the epidural space in the lower back. A combination of steroid medication and local anesthetic is injected to decrease inflammation and relieve pain that may radiate into the buttocks, thighs, or legs.
4. Facet Joint Injections
a. Cervical, Thoracic, and Lumbar Embed:
What it Treats
A facet joint injection is used to relieve pain that originates from the facet joints of the spine. This pain is often caused by arthritis, injury, or degenerative changes in the joints and can affect the neck, mid-back, or lower back. c. How the Procedure Is Performed The procedure is performed using X-ray or fluoroscopic guidance to accurately place a small needle into the affected facet joint. A mixture of steroid medication and local anesthetic is injected to reduce inflammation and provide pain relief 5. Piriformis injection a. What it Treats A piriformis injection is used to relieve pain, inflammation, and muscle spasm in the buttock and hip region caused by piriformis syndrome. This condition can irritate the sciatic nerve, resulting in pain, tingling, or numbness that radiates down the leg.
How the Procedure Is Performed
The procedure is performed using sterile technique and often imaging guidance, such as ultrasound or fluoroscopy, to accurately target the piriformis muscle. A combination of steroid medication and local anesthetic is injected to reduce inflammation, relax the muscle, and relieve pressure on the sciatic nerve, improving pain and mobility.

6. Sacroiliac (SI) Joint Steroid Injection
What it Treats
A sacroiliac joint steroid injection is used to relieve pain and inflammation in the lower back and buttock caused by sacroiliac joint dysfunction or arthritis. It can help improve mobility and reduce discomfort for patients who have not responded adequately to conservative treatments such as physical therapy or medications.
How the Procedure Is Performed
The procedure is performed using imaging guidance, such as fluoroscopy, to accurately place a needle into the sacroiliac joint. A combination of steroid medication and local anesthetic is injected to reduce inflammation and block pain signals, providing prolonged relief and helping guide further treatment options.
7. Transforaminal Epidural Steroid Injection
Lumbar Embed:
What it Treats
A transforaminal epidural steroid injection is used to relieve pain, inflammation, and nerve irritation caused by conditions such as herniated discs, spinal stenosis, or degenerative disc disease in all levels of the spine. It is typically recommended for patients who experience radiating pain, numbness, or tingling in the arms or legs due to nerve root compression.
How the Procedure Is Performed
The procedure is performed using imaging guidance, such as fluoroscopy, to accurately place a needle near the affected spinal nerve as it exits the spinal canal (through the neural foramen). A combination of steroid medication and local anesthetic is injected into the targeted area to reduce inflammation and block pain signals, providing relief and helping guide further treatment.
