Spinal Cord Stimulator Implant
What it Treats
A spinal cord stimulator implant is used to provide long-term relief for chronic pain in the back, legs, or arms, typically in patients who experienced significant improvement during a successful SCS trial. It is recommended for patients whose pain has not been adequately managed with medications or other treatments.
How the Procedure Is Performed
The procedure involves implanting stimulation leads in the epidural space near the spinal cord and connecting them to a small pulse generator placed under the skin, usually in the lower back or abdomen. The system delivers controlled electrical pulses to block pain signals, and the device can be programmed and adjusted externally to optimize pain relief for the patient.
