1. Dorsal Root Ganglion Stimulator Implant – Abbott Embed
What it Treats
A dorsal root ganglion spinal cord stimulator permanent implant is used to provide long-term relief for patients with chronic, localized nerve pain who experienced significant improvement during a trial period. It is commonly used to treat conditions such as complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) and focal neuropathic pain.
How the Procedure Is Performed
The procedure involves implanting stimulation leads near the dorsal root ganglion and placing a small pulse generator beneath the skin, typically in the lower back or buttock area. The system delivers controlled electrical signals to disrupt pain transmission and can be adjusted externally to optimize pain relief.
2. Intrathecal Pump Implant
What it Treats
An intrathecal pump implant is used to provide long-term pain relief or manage severe spasticity in patients who have not responded adequately to oral medications or other treatments. It delivers medication directly into the spinal fluid for targeted, effective symptom control.
How the Procedure Is Performed
The procedure involves implanting a small pump under the skin, usually in the lower abdomen or gluteal region, and connecting it to a catheter that delivers medication into the intrathecal space around the spinal cord. The pump can be programmed and adjusted externally to provide continuous or on-demand medication delivery, allowing for precise, long-term management of pain or spasticity
3. Spinal Cord Stimulator Implant
What it Treats
A spinal cord stimulator implant is used to provide long-term relief for chronic pain in the back, legs, or arms, typically in patients who experienced significant improvement during a successful SCS trial. It is recommended for patients whose pain has not been adequately managed with medications or other treatments.
How the Procedure Is Performed
The procedure involves implanting stimulation leads in the epidural space near the spinal cord and connecting them to a small pulse generator placed under the skin, usually in the lower back or abdomen. The system delivers controlled electrical pulses to block pain signals, and the device can be programmed and adjusted externally to optimize pain relief for the patient.
